Well, here it is. Straight to ya from NWI.

That Real Deal Hollyfield shit! Holy fucking Hell!

As such a morally ridged and rule based person it truly surprised me to see you are booking a show for violent reaction - a band who has a "anti-social straight edge" t-shirt with a printed photograph of Ian Stewart- the singer of Skrewdriver- who aligned themselves with nationalism and white power beliefs. Also you seem post a lot of "anti jock" stuff- and the flex has a giant buff singer and they have a pretty jocky sound. What's up with that?

I wrote up a completely different response initially, but a two second search brought me here: http://xlawandorderx.blogspot.com/2013/09/tom-from-violent-reaction-asked-me-to.html?m=1. My main man Staffan designed that shit and explains straightaway it ain’t Ian Stuart’s broke ass.

As for the Flex, dude’s buff. That happens. Big world, lotta people. Don’t make him no jock.

Feel like yer stretching a bit.

In response to that earlier question, I was wondering what are some current DIY labels you're a strong supporter of, both musically and ethically (for a lack of a better word, but I just mean how they operate)? Personally I've always been a big fan of Deranged, Feral Ward, and Fashionable Idiots. We met once when I was on tour with a friends band and I had a great time. I think there is a big difference between having a strong will of character and having "a judgmental attitude". VLV rules.

Hey P.A.,

Thanks for following up.  I think that Fashionable Idiots was a great label. I’m honestly not sure what they’re up to anymore, but in the Mid-to-Late Aughts, they definitely released a string of records that helped inform my taste in punk, such as Condominium, Chronic Seizure, FJ’s, and Civic Progress. Most recently they did that Wild Child EP and I thought that record was bonkers, as well. FW and Deranged are fine, they don’t do a ton of releases I feel are must haves for me, but I respect what they’re doing.

Certainly the best DIY label in the States, hands down, is IFB outta Florida. Even when they put something out that maybe isn’t for me musically, seeing their logo on a rekkid is enough to make me stop, pay attention, and check it out. The attention paid to quality, the palpable love and effort they put into every single release they do, is a constant source of inspiration and is a standard that I believe every label should strive towards.

La Vida Es Un Mus, from the UK/Spain (I’m honestly not sure, I think the HQ moves around from time to time) is the only record label that I buy everything they release.  Even if I haven’t heard the band yet (or even heard of ‘em), the LVEUM logo is a seal of quality that has yet to let me down and I can’t for the life of me imagine a time that it will.

Cintas Pepe from Mexico hasn’t yet put out a bad record.  They take the ethics and attention to quality IFB and combine it with some of the ugliest, most urgent, authentic punk I’ve ever heard.

Perennial Records does an incredible job of documenting rainy day, fuzzy scuzzy, weirdo shit from the Pacific Northwest.  Another label that does a great job of making me stop and pay attention even if I’m not into every thing they do.

My favorite new tape label is Turd World outta Bloomington, IN.  These freaks are responsible for the NU YOUTH, CHUD, and COWBOYS demos, all three of which are mandatory listens and prove that B-Ton ain’t Chris Clavin’s domain no more.

These are the main ones, the big bads, but there are so many others deserving of praise and attention: False Form, Grave Mistake, Overdose, Play Pinball, Shogun (RIP), Overdose, Silenzio Statico, Sorry State, Warthog Speak, and a ton more I can’t think of right now ‘cause it’s 2PM and I still haven’t eaten yet.  Punk rules, there’s a lot to be positive about, but I don’t think the bullshit should be ignored just so everyone can be friends.  There’s a lot of bad muzak that shouldn’t have any vinyl wasted on it and there’s a lot of dubious puds fuckin’ shit up from the ethical standpoint (be it releasing bands with disgusting, hateful things to say or just operating like a fucking major) that should get tossed in the trash.

Not sure who you came through with, but I’m glad you had a good time, be it because of or in spite of me.

As for that last bit, I think the only real distinction between the two is subjective. The same personality traits, mannerisms, behaviors, etc. comprise the two poles you’ve established, it’s just people respect it and call it “strong will” when their friends are being dicks and call it “judgmental” when it’s their enemies. You can sit me at whichever table has my name tag.

Why do you appear to have such high standards for everything then release such sub-par shit? I have only met you a few times but get some STRONG judgmental vibes from you- whats the story behind that? Sincerely, "True Believer"

Hmm, thanks for the question “true believer.” I mean the obvious answer as to why we release such “sub-par” stuff is that there are only so many cut-rate, overhyped, posh looking, milk baby HC bands to go around. Sometimes ya gotta regress a bit and dig deep to find the “is.”

As for being judgmental, ya got me dead to rights. I’ve never claimed to be open-minded about vapid, contrived music or boring, unoriginal opinions. I try to be as welcoming and supportive as possible of new people looking for their place and purpose, but I have my limits and make them known. And to be honest, since this was done anonymously and have no idea what you’re referencing, I can’t say for sure that I’m sorry.

If you feel like NNT’s taste (impeccable), record (unblemished), and opinions (shitty) aren’t to your liking, there are an infinite amount of labels that more than likely have as bad of an opinion about us as we do of them and (for a rare positive view on my part) an equal amount doing things that I think are deserving of praise that maybe you should turn your attention towards instead! I release what I know to be good, what shakes my ass and rattles my brain and if that ain’t your deal, we’ll learn to cope.

See ya on the VLV!

Is there ever going to be another pukeoid record???????!
